Perpignan airport is situated 2 NM NW of the town and there is high ground to the West and South. To the northwest hills reach 3200ft at 12 NM and 4100ft at 25 NM. To the southwest there are peaks at 9800ft. There are no obstruction lights on these hills. There is considerable light aircraft traffic which predominantly uses runway 13/31. The Spanish Border is 16 NM south of the airfield.
The highest 25 NM MSA is 10700ft. With DME the MSA is 4000ft within 11 NM PPG.
Circle-to-Land with prescribed flight tracks.
Circling permitted to the East of the airfield only.
RUNWAY AND AIRPORT FACILITIES
RWY 15 LH circuit, no approach lights.
RWY 15 PAPIs steeper than normal, 3.7 degrees.
RWY 33 RH circuit.
TAKE-OFF AND DEPARTURE
For either runway, note the high ground to the north and northwest. If departing to the south, note very high ground of the Pyrenees Mountains.
Sea haze can potentially obscure airfield in a matter of minutes.
Large bird concentrations around and on the airfield from September to February.
PREFERENTIAL RWY SYSTEM
If not directed otherwise and wind speed is less than 2m/sec, use rwy 33.
